The score for "Bunny" is composed and produced by Tom Waits and his wife, Kathleen Brennan who have collaborated on a number of films including "Dead Man Walking," "One For The Heart," "Night on Earth" and "End of Violence." The music has an emotional range that journeys from an unusual hymn-like, pump-organ solo, to an instrumental chaos most reminiscent of an orchestra warming up. Waits also lends his infamous gravelly vocal style to a song he wrote for the film titled "Bend Down The Branches." Waits said what drew him to the project was Bunny herself, adding, "Working with Chris Wedge was really inspiring. It's an amazing film. Bunny, has the ability to cross the borders of childhood and adulthood with ease. She's a great lady who knows her way around a kitchen!"
The studio mixing and recording was completed by Kessler Media Productions, LTD (Katonah, NY). Working closely with Foley Artist Ginger Geary, Sound Designer Robert Kessler, who has recorded and produced over 500 audio recordings, said the absence of dialogue posed an interesting challenge for him when defining the sonic texture of the film. "Since the sound of Bunny's world had to reflect her wide range of emotions, the relationship between the music, sound effects, and foley were constantly shifting. For example," Kessler added, "some of Bunny's loneliest moments occur when many layers of sound are present."
Tom Waits: Singer, songwriter, actor, Tom Waits has been recording and performing for over 25 years. In addition to his 20 odd records for Electra and Island, he has written songs and scores for two operas, "The Black Rider" and "Alice." He received an Academy Award nomination for his song score for the film "One From The Heart" and a grammy for his album "Bone Machine." He is currently working on finishing a new albumen tentatively titled "Mule Variations" for an early Spring release.
